Recycling Workshops

Have you ever wanted to start recycling or composting and just didn’t feel like you knew enough to get started? Starting in January the KRC will be offering a monthly workshop on topics related to recycling to help Knoxville and surrounding area residents learn how to get started.

The main emphasis early on will be on composting. With the spring not far away, the goal will be to get your composting program started, so it can handle the yard trimmings, leaves, and yard waste that comes each spring.
Included in the composting workshops will be how to build a vermicompost bin or worm bin. This can be an exciting project for kids as well, so be sure to consider making this a family event.

Later on in the year, the workshops will change to a variety of topics, including precycling, reusable bags, and many others.
Each workshop may have a small fee, in order to pay for any supplies used on the project. For instance with the vercompost bins, there may be a fee for supplies or we may just ask you to bring your own. Be sure to look at the details of each event before signing up. The KRC will try and support those who cannot afford any fees, but there are no promises.

The workshops will be a trial program, so its continuation relies on there being enough interest to warrant it. In order to prevent a day of no-shows, the workshops will be rsvp only. With a limited amount of space and supplies, it will be important to sign up early.

More information will come available as the day of the workshop approaches. Watch the news section of the web site for information about signing up, or you can email me at education [at] knoxvillerecycles [dot] org.
